O mês de Dezembro foi um mês em cheio para mim, literalmente o culminar do ano. Com o fim do MBA e do Doutoramento veio também o sentimento de missão cumprida. Com tudo isto naturalmente o tempo para outros projectos foi muito pouco. Há no entanto muitos que já estão prontos há bastante tempo mas que ainda não tive oportunidade de fotografar, a seu tempo aqui estarão.
Com tudo isto quase nem dei pela chegada do Natal que entretanto já passou. Espero que tenham tido um bom Natal. Por aqui não houve tempo para grandes projectos natalícios mas, há sempre lugar para decorações claro! Acho que este ano foi o ano dos presépios cá em casa, até a casa de banho teve direito a presépio... Este foi o primeiro presépio que fiz em FIMO, há já alguns anos.

December was an important month for me. I have finished my MBA and PhD and there is a feeling of accomplishment. As a consequence, I have had very little time for anything else. I have a few projects that have been finished for some time now, but still did not have the opportunity to photograph them. In time I will show them here...
With all this I didn't even notice Christmas was just around the corner. I hope you had a great time. Around here there was not much time for Christmas projects but, there is always some time for Christmas decorations. This year was the year of nativity scenes around here, even the bathroom got a nativity scene. In fact this was the first one that I have handmade in FIMO.

Para além dos presépios este natal foi também marcado por preparativos para o casamento de uns amigos. O que significa que a noite e o dia de natal foram em família a coser lembranças de casamento :) (tive 5 ajudantes preciosas). O tema do casamento foram as viagens dos noivos e por isso as lembranças para as mulheres foram umas malas de viagem em feltro com cheirinho para aromatizar um armário ou gaveta.

Beside the nativity scenes this Christmas was also time to prepare for a wedding. Some friends were getting married on the 26th which means Christmas was spent in family, sewing wedding gifts. The wedding theme was "travels" and so, wedding gifts for the ladies were small hand sewn aromatic travel bags.

Os marcadores de mesa foram também em formato de mala de viagem, com fotos dos noivos nos diferentes destinos.

Table placers were also travel bags, with photos of the bride and groom on the different destinations.

E claro não podia faltar o arroz para felicitar os noivos à saída da igreja. Os cones foram feitos com naperons de papel, daqueles que se usam nos bolos. O efeito final é suave, simples e muito elegante.

Rice to great the newlyweds was a must. The cones were made with paper doilies and the finalr esult is very simple, soft and elegant.

Curiosamente as cestas usadas para transportar as lembranças e os cones de arroz foram as cestas que usei no meu casamento e entretanto, em dois casamentos de amigos. Ou seja, estas são as cestas oficiais dos casamentos. A decoração vai mudando de casamento para casamento mas as cestas são as mesmas.

Funny enough, these baskets wich were used to transport the wedding gifts and the rice, were the ones that I have used on my own wedding. These have been also used in two other weddings of our friends. I guess these are the oficial wedding baskets! The decoration changes for every wedding but the baskets are always the same ones.

Os carrosséis de cavalinhos fazem parte do imaginário e da fantasia infantil. Quem é que não se lembra do carrossel da Mary Poppins e dos cavalinhos que a certa altura saíam do carrossel e continuavam o seu caminho?
A semana passada estive a fazer um carrossel em EVA para um anjinho. O processo foi bastante simples e o resultado final foi muito positivo.

Carousel are part of childhood imagination and fantasy. Who does not remember Mary Poppins carousel horses that at some point left the carousel and continued their way?
Last week I have made a pink carousel in EVA paper, for a little angel. The process was quite simle and the final result extremely positive.

Usei como base um chapéu de palhinha mas, podem fazê-lo em cartolina, basta cortarem um circulo do diâmetro que pretendem e depois abrir num dos lado (abertura igual ao raio do circulo) e sobrepor tanto quanto desejarem. Quanto mais sobrepuserem as abas menor será o diâmetro final e maior a altura do "chapéu".
Apesar de já ter o chapéu de palhinha tive também que desenhar o circulo para depois poder ter uma ideia do tamanho dos gomos que iria cortar em EVA. Estes triângulos em EVA foram colados com colo UHU no chapéu de palhinha e como podem ver, para rematar as ligações entre os diferente triângulos usei fita de cetim cor-de-rosa. Para rematar o topo cortei uma tirinha de EVA que enrolei e colei à volta da bandeirinha. Cá em baixo usei uma fita com folhinho que colei com cola quente a toda a volta.
O mastro central foi feito com um tubo que revesti com EVA (para este usei cola UHU em spray). Com a ajuda de cola quente fixei o mastro à restante estrutura. Por fim cortei os cavalinhos em EVA e pendurei-os no interior do chapéu com cola quente.

I have used a chinese wicker hat as a bse for the carousel top but, you can simply do it with cardboard Just cut a circle, open it (at radius length) and close it as much as you want. The more you close the smaller the final diameter gets while the height gets bigger.
Although I had a bse to work with I also need to draw the circle and cut it in order to find out how many trianguar slices of EVA and of what size, I was going to need. The EVA triangles were glued to the base with UHU glue and, as you can see, to finish the interface between two triangles I've used some pink satin ribbon.To finish the top I've used a little rectangle of EVA and rolled it around the flag's post. On the bottom I've used a ribbon with frills and glued it with hot glue.
The central mast was done with EVA coated tube, for this I've used some UHU spray glue. Using hot glue once again the mast was then glued o the upper "hat".
The horses were the last ones these are also made in EVA, hanging in a satin ribbon which is glued with hot glue on the "hat".

The final piece of art was made by the great florist Ana Maria, my husband's aunt. The picture is not very good but, isn't it gorgeous?

O Halloween foi ontem, e este ano os meus sobrinhos tiveram festa a dobrar porque sexta-feira foi a festa de halloween da escola e ontem tiveram uma festa de aniversário. Por isso, mascararam-se dois dias. Que sorte!

Este ano o mais velho pediu um fato de múmia e o mais novo foi de dragão com o fato que vos mostrei aqui.
Na sexta-feira foi a vez da tia os ir buscar à escola e depois fizemos uma min-sessão fotográfica noturna.

Yesterday was halloween and this year my nephews were able to dress up twice. How lucky!
Friday they had the school's halloween party and yesterday they had a birthday party.

This year the older one wanted to dress as a mummy and the younger one went as a dragon with the costume I made a few years and showed you here.

Friday was time for me to pick them up at school and then we had a mini photo session in the evening.

Para o fato da múmia usei mais uma vez o molde base de fato completo de que já falei aqui e aqui. Decidi fazer a base em flanela para que eles estivesse quentinho e confortável. Quase como se estivesse de pijama.

Depois usei um tecido branco leve para fazer as várias camadas da múmia. Para isso cortei tiras de tecido que depois fora cosidas uma a uma. Para que não se vissem costuras comecei a coser as tiras de baixo para cima, ou seja, começando na base das pernas em direção aos ombros. Assim usei a mesma costura para a costura superior de uma tira e a costura inferior da tira imediatamente acima. Para dar o ar de múmia deixei alguns bocadinhos de tecido pendurados e alguns nós.

For the mummy costume I have used once again the base pattern that I've mentioned here and here.
I have decided to use flannel for the base and then sew the stripes around. Flannel was the choice because it is warm and comfortable, I thought it would be like just wearing pajamas.
For the mummy effect I've used a light white fabric that was cut into strips. I didn't want the seams to be visible so I've started to sew the strips from the bottom to the top. Every seam puts together the upper side of one strip and the lower side of the strip immediatly after. For the falling apart mummy effect I left some strips hanging and a few knots.

Há relativamente pouco tempo vieram morar cá para casa dois novos calcadores para a máquina de costura. Os calcadores para fechos. Um para fechos invisíveis, e outro para fechos ditos normais. Tenho reparado que há bastante conversa em torno destes calcadores e posso dizer-vos que sim, vale a pena adquiri-los porque a vossa vida vai ser muito mais fácil com eles. Já para não falar do incremento na perfeição das vossas peças de roupa.

Aqui estão eles:

Not very long ago two new sewing machine feet came home with me. The zipper feet. One for the invisible zipper sewing and another one for the normal zippers. I have noticed there is a lot of talk and opinions around these sewing machine acessories and I can tell you: Yes it is worth it! They will make your life easier. Not to talk about how much better your clothes will look like.

Here they are:

O calcador para os fechos normais (da direita) que podem ver nas fotos pode prender-se na máquina em duas posições, dependendo do lado do fecho que estamos a coser. É muito fácil de colocar na máquina e facilita muito o processo de coser um fecho, que com um calcador normal pode por vezes ser complexo. O fecho branco que vêm na foto foi o fecho que usei no fato de múmia do meu sobrinho para este halloween (em breve vou mostrá-lo aqui).

The one for the normal zippers (on the right) can be assembled in two different positions depending on the zipper side you are sewing. It is very easy to attach it to the sewing machine and it makes our life much easier when there is the need to sew a zipper. The white zipper that you can see below was the one I have used for my nephew's halloween mummy costume (I'll show it to you soon).

O calcador para fechos invisíveis é também simplesmente fantástico (confesso que inicialmente estava um pouco reticente relativamente à necessidade de o ter). Basta colocar o fecho virado do avesso no local onde o queremos coser e voilá, é só coser. O calcador tem duas reentrâncias que encaixam nos dentes do fecho e a costura fica mesmo ali ao lado. Para colocar este calcador na máquina basta desapertar o parafuso que vêm no lado esquerdo, colocar o calcador e voltar a apertar.
Neste caso o que está nas fotos é um vestido, que irei em breve mostrar-vos aqui (quando acabar a baínha) e posso dizer-vos que nunca um fecho invisível cosido por mim, tinha ficado tão bem como este.

The one for invisible zipper sewing is also great (I must say at first I hesitated about the need to bring this one home). You just need to put the zipper face down on the fabric and sew it. The foot has two grooves where the zipper teeth get into and the needle will sew it just near them. To assemble this foot into the machine you'll need to unscrew the little screw on the left and screw it back.
In this case what you see on the photos is a dress, that I intend to show you soon and, I can teel you that never before did an invisble zipper, that had been sewn by me, looked so good.

Acho que estes novos moradores vão ter muito trabalho pela frente...

I believe these two will have a lot of work to do.

O tempo não tem andado muito amigo das fotos porque a luz é pouca e a chuva não ajuda. Assim fui adiando este post e os seguintes. Tratando-se todos de roupas que fiz para mim própria é preciso tirar as fotos, de preferência ao ar livre, e claro recrutar o fotógrafo, que é como quem diz convencer o meu marido.

Este domingo apesar do tempo não colaborar muito lá fomos nós finalmente fotografar uma das saias que vos quero mostrar. Começo pela mais simples, uma saia travada preta. Projecto de costura mais simples do que este não há muitos. Esta saia tem duas costuras laterais, 2 pinças verticais atrás e claro uma fecho atrás. Como o tecido não pedia forro o projecto foi ainda mais simples. A quantidade de tecido necessária para uma saia destas não é muita e, para além de todos estes factores é ainda um modelo para o qual se encontram moldes com imensa facilidade, no meu caso usei moldes de uma revista Burda bastante antiga.

O tecido tem um padrão florido em tons de cinzento mas é bastante suave, o que faz com que esta saia seja muito versátil, porque fica bem com quase tudo.

Lately the weather has been pretty grey so, not very good for photos. As a consequence I have been postponing my posts because they are all about clothing items I have made for myself. This means I need to take pictures outside and I need my photographer (my husband).

Althoough it was rainny this sunday we decided to go outside and take some pictures of one of the skirts I want to show you. I decided to strat with the simplest one, a black pencil skirt. This is probably the easiest sewing project ever. The skirt has 2 lateral seams, 2 yokes on the back) and a zipper. As this fabrich did not need lining it was a really simple project. The amount of fabric needed for such skirt is quite small and, on top of that pencil skirt pattern are very easy to find. I have used an old pattern from Burda.

The fabric has a floral grey pattern but it is subtle enough so that the skirt is very versatile and easy to match.
